The Story of the Shepherd Boy
Blog Article
In the heart of the enchanting rolling hills, lived a young shepherd. His existence was untarnished, and unsophisticated. His main role was to look after his flock of rams.
Their gentle baas and the murmuring of the breezes through the single tree on the mountaintop were his main co-dwellers. Day upon day, looking out for his charges inculcated in him a sense of calm satisfaction.
Yet, there were occasional moments of isolation, when the shepherd boy would long for fellowship. In one such instance because of sheer tedium, the shepherd boy orchestrated a naughty plan.
Tales of predators prowling on sheep had been around for a while in the hamlet. So, the boy opted to leveraged this fear and played a prank on the townsfolk.
One morning he dashed into the village yelling “Wolf! A wolf is that has taken my sheep!” The frightened villagers rushed up the hills to help but discovered no wolf.
The boy chuckled at the puzzle on their faces. This game laughed for a few more days. Yet, one noon, a real wolf did come to here prey the flock. The shepherd boy dashed for help, shouting “Wolf, Wolf!” But this time, no one responded.
Frustrated and alone, the boy fought against the wolf but could protect only few of his flock. Heartbroken, he returned to the town only to receive a scolding on honesty and the results of false alarms.
The story of this shepherd boy has been transmitted generations as a mediaeval parable to teaching the importance of honesty, the implications of dishonesty and the perils of crying wolf. Moreover, it stresses how trust once broken, is difficult to regain. It's a story as relevant today as it was anciently.
